Javier Hoyo, PhD

Javier Hoyo obtained his PhD (cum laude) at the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC) in collaboration with the Nanoswitches and Nanoprobes group at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) in Barcelona, Spain. His multidisciplinary background includes Chemistry degree, Chemical Engineering degree and Master’s degree in Molecular Biotechnology (Pharmacy). He obtained the research starting grant at IBEC and the FPU grant at the UPC. The postdoctoral research of Dr. Hoyo was funded by the FP7 and H2020 actions and stayed at the Technische Universitat Berlin.

Javier Hoyo has >30 top-ranked publications (h_index 16) in Nanomedicine, Biomembranes and Green Chemistry and resulted in two international patents. His works are presented in prestigious international conferences such American Chemical Society Meetings and European Colloid and Interface Society. Dr. Hoyo is scientific reviewer for top-ranked journals, guest editor and member of international panel boards. He is Assistant Professor at the Department of Physical-Chemistry of the University of Barcelona.

Javier Hoyo has participated and managed national and international projects (>20) and currently is coordinating the project “Activity and connectivity drive neuronal vulnerability and disease progression in Parkinson’s disease” an international project funded with $11 million involving EEUU, Australia and Europe. He has wide experience in University-Industry collaboration and technology transfer.
