Jordi Bové, PhD

Jordi Bové studied Pharmacy at the University of Barcelona. He got his Ph.D. in 2003 at the Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS, Barcelona) working on the mechanism of levodopa-induced motor fluctuations in the 6-OHDA model of Parkinson’s disease. He later joined the laboratory of Dr. Serge Przedborski at Columbia University (New York, USA) as a post-doctoral researcher (2003-2005), working on animal modeling and the role of alpha-synuclein in Parkinson’s disease. He joined the Neurodegenerative Diseases Research  Group at VHIR in January 2006. In 2011, he obtained a position as a Miguel Servet Investigator (Instituto de Salud Carlos III, Spain). The research that his conducting is aimed to elucidate the mechanism of neuron cell death and to determine new therapeutic targets to develeop neuroprotective startegies for Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. He is also interested in establishing presymptomatic biomarkers of Parkinson´s disease. He is mainly focused on lysosomal impairment, membrane permeabilization and the role of  alfa-synuclein postranslational modified forms in the activation of the adaptive immune system in Parkinson’s disease.
